Hi, my name is Tina and I am a graphic designer, specialising in editorial and communications.

My roots are in print journalism, where I have conceived new magazine concepts as well as working with established, well-loved brands.

I now work across print and digital platforms. My speciality is keep-forever publications, from coffee table books to collectable reports to bespoke branded journals, complimented with digital design and art direction for cohesive communications.

Closest to my heart are jobs which do good in the world. I work extensively on projects around the themes of the natural world, wellbeing and responsible travel.

I work with publishers, brands and charities to create communications which hit the right note - expressing who they are, speaking to their audience and telling their stories.

I am based in North-east Somerset, a stone’s throw from Bristol and Bath, and around 2.5 hours from London.

Magazines & journals

My editorial portfolio spans newsstand, digital, customer and indie magazines, with a selection of awards under my belt. I design magazine concepts for established brands, create new editorial brands, and create content for existing design formats.

Books

I design a wide range of beautifully produced, keep-forever books. While the fast-paced word of digital communications can be exciting, nothing matches the sensory experience of a physical book, as we rediscover the ‘new luxury’ of offline leisure.

Reports & white papers

I design reports which are visually engaging, with the clarity and gravitas needed to convey your messaging. I am experienced in whipping complex copy and data into clear, accessible and inspiring reports in print and digital formats.

Newsletters & social

As the edges of editorial and marketing become increasingly blurred, my editorial eye (and social media marketing training) can elevate your digital content, designing authentic stories your audience wants to read.

Events

I can create a sub-brand for your event, creating brochures, delegate packs, social media marketing and content, for a consistent identity across your display and communications.

Awards & talks

I have delivered talks at Guardian Masterclass and V&A Connects events and won a range of industry awards. I am also a visiting tutor, setting the editorial design module at City of Bristol College.

FAQs

  • I studied at Wimbledon School of Art and Camberwell College of Arts, graduating in 2004 with a degree in Graphic Design. I went immediately into freelance design for magazines, winning New Designer of the Year in 2006. With the advent of the iPad, I became one of the first digital art editors, helping create interactive editions of well-known magazines like BBC Science Focus, Stuff, Empire and the Radio Times. Around this time I also launched my first indie journal, Lost in London, going on to design Pretty Nostalgic and Ernest journal. Since 2012, I have designed more than 20 books across themes of food, travel, gardens and art, and designed for print titles like BBC Wildlife, BBC History, Gardens Illustrated and Countryfile. In 2015 I redesigned the membership publications for BTO, going on to design branded magazines for the Wildlife Trusts, Another Place hotels and the Marbella Club.

  • It all starts with a chat (and ideally a good coffee!) so I can get to know what you need. I can be involved from the earliest stages, helping you conceive your brand and aesthetic, or I can work within existing guidelines and templates. Once we’ve worked out timelines and budgets, I get to work. I design everything remotely from my home in near Bristol, with a series of planned check-ins and opportunities for feedback.

  • Yes! As an art director, I’m experienced at managing photography and illustration commissions, collaborating with writers and editors, and liaising with printers. I also regularly and closely collaborate with Jo Tinsley, whose experience as a writer, editor, publisher and events co-ordinator makes us a one-stop, two-woman shop for a complete, bespoke package.
